MISSION STATEMENT
As disciples of
Jesus Christ, we celebrate God's presence through worship,
seeking justice, and serving our community with compassion.
PRAYER OF THE WEEK
In you, O God,
every family on earth receives its name.
Illumine the homes of this earth
with the light of your love,
granting courage to those who are hurt or lonely,
endurance to those who care
for sick family members,
and wisdom to those in fearful times of change.
We thank you for gifts of love we have received
from mother, father, spouse, child, or companion.
As we have been loved by you and by others,
so may we love.
Grant us your peace, through Jesus the Christ. Amen.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
“To lose a brother is to lose someone with whom
you can share the experience of growing old,
who is supposed to bring you a sister-in-law and nieces
and nephews, creatures who people the tree of your life
and give it new branches.
To lose your father is to lose the one whose guidance
and
help you seek, who supports you like a tree trunk supports
its branches.
To lose your mother, well, that is like losing the sun above
you. It is like losing--I'm sorry, I would rather not go
on.”
Yann Martel, Life of Pi
“The bond that links your true family is not one of blood,
but
of respect and joy in each other's life.
Rarely do members of one family grow up
under the same roof.”
Richard Bach, Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant
Messiah
"Happiness [Is] Only Real When Shared"
Jon Krakauer, Into the Wild
“What can you do to promote world peace?
Go home and love your family.”
